Whitebird Project

The Whitebird Project, conceived and implemented by Gordon Pollock, is a volunteer service designed to help people who have a severe disability or a terminal illness. Individuals in need can apply to Gordon for a FREE "therapeutic" hang gliding flight.

Flying in a hang glider can release people from their worries, and shatter their limitations. Emotional stress is temporarily eliminated, while self-confidence and enthusiastic love-of-life is restored. And all of this is accomplished without the unpleasant side effects of drugs, and without the tedious work of physical therapy. Imagine moving effortlessly from the confines of a wheelchair to the freedom of flying like a bird.

Ask Jason Ellis, a paraplegic who recently took a complimentary flight through this program. You can read Jason's comments, here.
You can watch a YouTube video of Gordon taking Jason for a tandem flight at Fort Funston .
Then, watch Jason after the flight, as he returns to a wheelchair that suddenly seems less confining.

Gordon has designed a special hang gliding harness which will allow him to take anyone, even a quadriplegic, for a tandem flight. The prototype of this harness is currently in development, but $2,000 is needed for labor and materials. If you would like to help by making a donation, please send your check payable to "Whitebird / Pollock",
