Pacific Tandem Hang Gliding

Testimonials

Following my dream to go hang gliding, I found Pacific Tandem Gliders on the USHGA web site, called, and that week met owner Gordon Pollock at the launch. He prepped me completely for the flight, patiently answering all my questions, showing me how he set up the glider and making sure I understood my role as passenger. After a few running steps, we were airborn over the most spectacular views of the Bay Area. Birds of prey joined us at our wing tip as Gordon's camera recorded our flight. Gordon's instruction was superb, and our landing was soft. A flight with Pacific Tandem Gliders has become a regular, unique gift for my family and friends!

Jason and Gordon

On April 19, 2008 on a beautiful day at Fort Funston in San Francisco I experienced something I’ll never forget. I went hang gliding! I’ve always thought hang gliding was pretty crazy, but my friends, who recently started hang gliding, assured me it is actually very safe. I had never paid much attention to the sport because I have always been busy with other gnarly sports such as motocross, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. However, I always knew I would love to try it sometime. Well, my good buddies Glen, Doug, and Brian finally got me to try it. It was actually Glen who heard about Gordon Pollock and got in touch with him. Gordon was more than happy to take me up.

I was pretty nervous that morning. Basically I knew that I was putting my life in someone else’s hands. On the other hand I knew Gordon had over 30 years of experience hang gliding so that was definitely reassuring. On a side note, right when we were getting ready to take off Gordon said he had never taken a paraplegic tandem flying before and I was the guinea pig…I was like right on let’s go! After getting all strapped in we lifted off and that was a feeling that is indescribable! We flew for about 15 minutes and it was amazing! Being able to fly with the birds in the sky is so much fun, and the views were breathtaking! I felt comfortable the whole time. When we came in for the landing I got a little sketched out because it seemed like we were coming in too fast. At the last second right before we touched the ground Gordon maneuvered the hang glider for a perfect landing. I don’t know much about the sport, but I learned that day that Gordon Pollock is a great pilot and an even better human being. Thanks again Gordon! - Jason Ellis
